I love coffee, and I love my Nespresso machine. My favorite pods are the double espresso Chiaro and the special peppermint flavor that comes out around Christmas.
I even love the Nespresso technology.
I mean, you can hold the button down while your coffee drips and let go at the precise moment you want it to stop. Boom! You’ve just reprogrammed your coffee pod.
You can also squeeze a little more from your pod by holding the button down while the coffee drips until you get a slightly weaker version of your favorite pod.
That’s nice, but why is my Nespresso Blinking Red?
A blinking red light is never a sign that something good is about to happen. That said, the reason why your Nespresso is blinking red may be different depending on what model machine you have.
Nespresso Vertuo Next
A blinking red light on the Nespresso Vertuo Next indicates a system error, often due to mineral buildup, a jammed capsule, or the need for a reset.
Try cleaning or power cycling the machine. If the light is pulsing red, the machine may be overheating or have an internal issue; let it cool down and inspect for problems.
Nespresso Vertuo Plus Machine
A blinking red light here usually means the head of the machine isn’t correctly positioned. Opening and closing the lid firmly may fix it.
It could also mean the machine’s water reservoir is too low or that the machine needs to be descaled.
Nespresso Evoluo
A flashing red light on this model often means there’s a stuck capsule or that the used capsule container needs emptying.
If the light alternates between red and orange, it means it’s time to descale the machine.
Nespresso Vertuo
A quick blinking red light on the Nespresso Veruo may indicate mineral buildup or a misaligned capsule. A cleaning cycle or re-inserting the capsule correctly can help.
Nespresso Essenza Mini
While the Essenza Mini doesn’t display a red blinking light, a rapidly blinking green light can signal an issue.
This may include general errors or an internal problem.
Nespresso Pixie
A steady red light on the Pixie generally means it’s time to descale, especially in areas with hard water. Regular descaling keeps the system running smoothly.
A blinking red light, however, may indicate blocked water flow.
Nespresso CitiZ
The CitiZ usually uses green or orange lights, not red. If a red light appears, it may indicate an electrical fault or internal malfunction. Try unplugging and restarting the machine.
Nespresso Lattissima (One, Touch, Pro)
A red light on the Lattissima models often points to an issue with the milk frother or indicates the need for descaling.
